Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu met with Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh in New Delhi to discuss the enhancement of the state's weather observation and early-warning systems.
The state currently operates three Doppler Weather Radars located in Kufri, Jot, and Murari Devi, with two additional radars planned for Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur.

Impact & Risks

The addition of Doppler Weather Radars and other observational tools is expected to significantly enhance Himachal Pradesh's ability to predict and respond to extreme weather events. This is particularly critical given the state's challenging terrain and susceptibility to landslides, flash floods, and heavy snowfall. Improved forecasting will benefit local communities, especially farmers, by providing timely and accurate weather information, reducing risks to life and property.
