US · Published Jul 30, 2026
A massive heat dome has shifted westward, bringing extreme and life-threatening temperatures to the Desert Southwest and other parts of the western United States.
According to the FOX Forecast Center, cities like Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Death Valley are expected to experience temperatures ranging from 118°F to 120°F (47.8°C to 48.9°C).

Impact & Risks

The extreme heat poses significant risks to millions of residents across the western U.S., particularly in areas like Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Death Valley. Prolonged exposure to such high temperatures can lead to heat-related illnesses, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The combination of heat and wildfire smoke further deteriorates air quality, creating additional health risks for vulnerable populations, such as children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing respiratory conditions. Outdoor activities will be particularly dangerous without proper precautions, and the heat is expected to strain energy resources as residents rely heavily on air conditioning.
