The National Weather Service (NWS) in Las Vegas has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for Southern Nevada, effective through 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 10,
A persistent high-pressure system is driving temperatures to dangerous levels, with highs ranging from 105°F to 110°F (40.5°C to 43.3°C) in the Las Vegas Valley and up to 116°F (46.6°C) in low-lying river basins like Laughlin and Bullhead City. Overnight lows are expected to remain elevated, between 82°F and 88°F (27.7°C to 31.1°C), exacerbating heat risks due to the urban heat island effect. The HeatRisk Level has been classified as Level 3 (Major) to Level 4 (Extreme).

Impact & Risks

The extreme heat poses significant risks to vulnerable populations, including outdoor workers, the elderly, and those without access to air conditioning. Sustained high overnight temperatures increase the likelihood of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Urban areas are particularly affected due to heat retention from infrastructure. Pets and outdoor animals are also at risk, as pavement temperatures can exceed 150°F (65.5°C).
