• The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has announced the release of $11 million in funds to support California's disaster case management program, which aids victims of the 2025 Palisades and Eaton wildfires as well as the 2023 winter storms. This funding includes $6.6 million for wildfire recovery and $4.5 million for storm victims. The program, which had been operating on $9.9 million in state funds, was at risk of shutting down by October 31 due to delays in federal disbursements. FEMA has also provided over $180 million in Individual Assistance to more than 35,000 individuals and households under a major disaster declaration issued in January
• However, an additional $3.3 million in federal funds remains outstanding, according to state officials.

Impact & Risks

The delayed funding had placed thousands of wildfire survivors in Southern California at risk of losing access to critical case management services. These services help families navigate complex governmental and insurance processes to rebuild their lives after losing homes in devastating fires. Without the program, many families would face significant challenges in accessing the resources they need. The newly released funds will temporarily sustain the program, but additional federal support is required to ensure its operation beyond September 30, 2026.
