Hurricane Lala, a Category 1 storm with sustained winds of 75 mph (120 km/h), caused significant travel disruptions on Saturday as it approached Hawaii's Big Island.
Flights from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Kona, Maui, Kauai, and Honolulu were canceled, along with inter-island and trans-Pacific flights.

Impact & Risks

The storm's impact has been widespread, with canceled flights affecting travelers between Los Angeles and Hawaii. Heavy rainfall and strong winds pose risks of flooding, mudslides, and infrastructure damage, particularly on the Big Island. Airports and ports have been closed, and residents are advised to stay indoors. If Hurricane Lala makes landfall, it would be the first hurricane to do so on the Big Island in 155 years.
