The rising water levels pose a significant flood threat to villages along the Narayani-Gandak river in Maharajganj district, Uttar Pradesh. Residents in low-lying areas, particularly near Pathalhawa and Telphal, are at risk of inundation. Overflowing drains, such as the Rohua drain, could exacerbate the situation, potentially damaging homes, crops, and infrastructure. While the Valmikinagar Gandak barrage has a discharge capacity of 4.30 lakh cusecs, the current discharge of 1.50 lakh cusecs is being closely monitored to prevent further escalation.
