India's Soybean Production Declines Marginally Amid Drought Conditions
IN · Published Oct 18, 2026
• India's soybean production for the ongoing Kharif season is projected to decline by 2.11% to 107.93 lakh tonnes, according to the Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA).
• The drop is attributed to drought-like conditions and moisture deficiency in Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Telangana, which led to crop losses across 7.02 lakh hectares.

Impact & Risks

The decline in soybean production could impact the availability of cooking oil and protein sources for livestock and poultry industries in India. Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Telangana have been particularly affected by prolonged dry spells, leading to significant crop losses. Farmers in these regions may face financial challenges due to reduced yields. However, increased production in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan may help stabilise the overall supply.
