• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad districts in Kerala due to extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 20 cm within 24 hours.
• An orange alert has been issued for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Kannur, forecasting rainfall between 12–20 cm.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall poses risks of flash floods, waterlogging, landslides, poor visibility, traffic disruptions, uprooted trees, and damage to vulnerable structures and crops. Sunday classes have been cancelled in Kozhikode, Malappuram, and Wayanad districts, including religious institutions, tuition centres, and coaching centres. Tourism activities, including homestays, resorts, and adventure tourism, have been suspended in Wayanad. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea due to squally weather conditions. Residents in vulnerable areas are urged to relocate to safer locations and avoid waterlogged areas and riverbanks.
