Hurricane Lala has intensified into a Category 3 storm in the Central Pacific, marking the first major hurricane of 2026 in the region, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).

Impact & Risks

The hurricane warning for the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands signals the potential for severe weather conditions, including high winds and heavy rainfall, within the next 36 hours. While the islands are uninhabited, the storm's proximity to Hawaii earlier in the week caused disruptions, including power outages and localized damage. Mariners and those monitoring the region should remain vigilant as the storm continues to move westward.
