Severe storms and tornadoes swept through Northwest Indiana and Illinois last week, leaving significant destruction in their wake.
According to the National Weather Service, at least 29 tornadoes were reported, including an EF3 tornado from Hebron to Kouts and an EF2 tornado from Merrillville to Hobart.

Why It's Important?

The storms have left many residents displaced, with homes and infrastructure severely damaged. In Merrillville, a school and several homes sustained significant structural damage. The use of generators indoors has led to fatalities and hospitalizations due to carbon monoxide poisoning. Power outages continue to affect thousands, complicating recovery efforts. The National Weather Service has warned of potential additional storms later this week, which could exacerbate the situation for already impacted communities.
