• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has officially declared the withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon from Maharashtra as of 8th October
• This marks the end of the monsoon season in the state, with dry conditions prevailing across most areas. Konkan districts, including Mumbai, are experiencing high temperatures of around 30°C, and hot and humid weather is expected to persist in Konkan and Goa between 8th and 10th October. Meanwhile, isolated heavy rainfall is forecast for Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim today. Rainfall is also expected in South Interior Karnataka on 9th October, and Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal between 8th and 10th October.

Impact & Risks

The withdrawal of the monsoon has led to dry conditions across Maharashtra, which may result in increased daytime temperatures and discomfort for residents, particularly in Konkan and Goa. High temperatures of 30°C are already being observed in Mumbai and surrounding areas. The IMD has issued warnings for Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha due to the uncomfortable weather. In northern states like Bihar and West Bengal, isolated heavy rainfall could lead to localised disruptions. Southern states such as Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu may experience moderate rainfall, which could impact daily activities.
