King Tides and Offshore System Threaten Southeast Coast
King Tides and Offshore System Threaten Southeast Coast

• A combination of seasonal king tides and an offshore storm system is expected to bring significant flooding, heavy surf, and severe rip currents to the Southeast Atlantic coast through the end of October.
• According to AccuWeather meteorologists, steady onshore winds and high astronomical tides associated with the full moon will lead to repeated flooding cycles, particularly in coastal areas from Florida to South Carolina.

Impact & Risks

Coastal communities in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina are at risk of tidal flooding, beach erosion, and dangerous surf conditions. Low-lying areas, including streets and docks, may experience standing water during high tides, potentially disrupting travel and daily activities. Persistent wave activity could accelerate shoreline erosion, while rough sea conditions may impact port traffic, cruise operations, and marine transport. Even if the offshore system does not develop into a tropical storm, hazardous conditions are expected to persist along the coast.
