Flash Flood Threat Across Southeast as Tropical Storms Persist
Flash Flood Threat Across Southeast as Tropical Storms Persist
US · Published May 29, 2026
Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected to continue across the Southeast U.S.
due to a persistent tropical weather system, according to the New York Post.
The system, fueled by deep tropical moisture from the Gulf and Atlantic, has already caused flash flood threats in Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

Why It's Important?

The ongoing heavy rainfall poses a significant flash flood risk, particularly in areas with already saturated soils. Coastal regions in South Carolina and Georgia may experience localized flooding, while urban areas like Atlanta could see more severe impacts. The storms are also expected to provide some drought relief, especially in Florida, where rainfall deficits have been significant since last August. However, the risk of water rescues and property damage remains high in flood-prone areas.
