Two major wildfires in western Miami-Dade County, Florida, are nearing full containment after burning for several days.
The Quarry 2 Fire, which has scorched approximately 20,000 acres west of Doral and Sweetwater, is now 97% contained, while the Well Fire, covering over 2,700 acres, is 85% contained as of Sunday afternoon.

Impact & Risks

The wildfires have significantly impacted residents and infrastructure in Miami-Dade County. Evacuations were ordered for areas near the fires, with some residents forced to leave their homes and trailers. Thick smoke reduced visibility and created hazardous air quality, posing health risks, particularly for individuals with respiratory conditions. Firefighters faced challenges containing the blazes, including the risk of fire spreading to conservation areas with dense vegetation. Road closures caused traffic disruptions, forcing drivers onto congested surface streets. While containment efforts have improved conditions, lingering smoke and ash remain a concern for public health.
