A late-season winter storm is forecasted to bring significant snowfall to parts of Montana and Wyoming, with some areas expected to receive up to 13 inches of snow.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter storm warning for the Absaroka and Beartooth Mountains in Montana and a winter weather advisory for the Pryor and Northern Bighorn Mountains in Montana and the Northeast Bighorn Mountains in Wyoming.
Snowfall is expected to primarily impact elevations above 7,000 feet, with gusty winds up to 30 mph reducing visibility.

Why It's Important?

The heavy snowfall and strong winds are expected to create hazardous travel conditions, particularly in mountainous areas. Roads, including U.S. Route 14, may become slippery and dangerous, with reduced visibility due to blowing snow. Recreational activities in high-elevation areas could be significantly impacted, and there is an increased risk of avalanches due to unstable snow conditions. In lower elevations, thunderstorms may bring gusty winds, small hail, and brief downpours, further complicating travel and outdoor activities.
