• The ICAR-Mahatma Gandhi Integrated Farming Research Institute (MGIFRI) in Motihari, Bihar, conducted a soil health awareness programme under the Khet Bachao Abhiyan
• The initiative focused on climate-resilient farming practices in flood-affected areas, particularly in waterlogged rice-growing ecosystems. Farmers were educated on soil health management, balanced fertilisation, crop diversification, and sustainable agricultural practices. Field assessments were conducted to classify waterlogged areas and provide technical guidance on improving soil health and crop productivity.

Impact & Risks

Flooding in Bihar's Chaur ecosystems poses challenges to rice growth, soil fertility, and subsequent Rabi crop establishment. Farmers face difficulties in cultivating low-lying fields with prolonged water stagnation. The programme aims to mitigate these risks by promoting climate-resilient farming strategies and improving soil health.
