• Mumbai has been experiencing scattered showers since October 30, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting light rain across the city and parts of Maharashtra for the next 4-5 days. According to the IMD, the Santacruz observatory recorded nearly 1 cm of rain as of October 31, while areas like Vikhroli received significant rainfall of approximately 66 cm. Independent meteorologists predict that rainfall in Mumbai will peak on November 2 and 3 before subsiding on November
• Additionally, a weather system forming over the Bay of Bengal may bring rain to parts of Andhra Pradesh, Marathwada, Vidarbha, Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, and Goa.

Impact & Risks

The ongoing rainfall is expected to bring temporary relief from high temperatures and improve air quality in Mumbai. However, the showers are not anticipated to be heavy enough to significantly recharge groundwater levels, according to experts. Farmers who have already sown rabi crops may see some benefits, but the overall impact on agriculture is expected to be limited due to the poor summer monsoon. Residents in low-lying areas should remain cautious of potential waterlogging during peak rainfall on November 2 and 3.
