• The Beni-Jomsom-Korala road, a vital route connecting India and China, has been partially restored after being severely damaged by monsoon-induced landslides and flooding.
• The Kaligandaki river washed away sections of the road, including a 250-metre stretch at Kunta cliff in Myagdi district.

Impact & Risks

The landslides and flooding have disrupted trade and transportation between India and China, with 500 containers of goods awaiting transit. Local agricultural products, such as apples from Mustang, and livestock for Dashain and Tihar festivals have also been delayed. The damage has impacted tourism in the region, as the Beni-Jomsom road is a key route for visitors. The estimated cost of reconstruction is Rs 3 billion, with damages ranging between Rs 800 million and Rs 900 million. The situation has caused significant logistical challenges, including fuel shortages and the need for alternative routes.
