India's Air Quality Index Data Highlights Pollution Trends from 2015 to 2026
IN · Published Oct 8, 2026
• The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has compiled state-wise and date-wise Air Quality Index (AQI) data for major cities and towns across India from 2015 to
• This dataset includes daily measurements taken at 4 PM, monitoring pollutants such as PM10, PM2.5, SO2, NO2, O3, CO, NH3, and Pb. The AQI values are calculated based on pollutant levels and their associated health impacts, categorising air quality into statuses like 'Good', 'Satisfactory', 'Moderate', 'Poor', 'Very Poor', and 'Severe'. The data provides insights into pollution levels in both rural and urban areas, with updates published daily. Recent data from 8 October 2026 shows varying air quality statuses across cities, including 'Good' in Aizawl, 'Moderate' in Ahmedabad, and 'Satisfactory' in Mysuru, among others.

Impact & Risks

Air pollution poses significant health risks, particularly in areas with 'Moderate' or worse AQI statuses. Exposure to pollutants such as PM10 and PM2.5 can lead to respiratory and cardiovascular issues. Cities like Ahmedabad and Agartala, which reported 'Moderate' air quality, may experience increased health concerns for vulnerable populations, including children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing conditions. Conversely, areas with 'Good' or 'Satisfactory' AQI statuses, such as Aizawl and Mysuru, face lower immediate health risks but should remain vigilant to prevent future deterioration.
