• Cyclone Murasu, currently located 630 km east-southeast of Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm before making landfall.
• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts the storm to cross the coast between Nellore and Narsapur late Monday night or early Tuesday morning, with sustained winds of 100-110 km/h and gusts up to 120 km/h.

Impact & Risks

The cyclone poses significant risks to life and property in coastal Andhra Pradesh. Major damage to thatched and vulnerable structures, uprooted trees, and disruptions to power and communication lines are anticipated. Agricultural losses, including damage to standing crops and plantations, are likely. Coastal flooding, urban waterlogging, and landslides in hilly areas are also possible. The IMD has warned of dangerous sea conditions, with waves reaching heights of 9 to 14 metres, making maritime activities unsafe. Recovery efforts from the recent Cyclone Arnab may further complicate preparations for Murasu.
