Indian Railways has utilized Rs 1.14 lakh crore, or 39% of its FY27 budget allocation, by July 2026, according to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
The funds have been directed towards safety enhancements, including the deployment of Kavach Version 4.0, an indigenous Automatic Train Protection system.

Impact & Risks

The significant investment in railway infrastructure and safety measures is expected to enhance passenger safety and operational efficiency. The deployment of Kavach will reduce the risk of accidents and improve train punctuality. However, the scale of the projects and the funds involved require stringent monitoring to ensure timely completion and prevent cost overruns.
