India's limited freshwater resources and growing population pose significant challenges to water security. Climate change, rapid urbanisation, and increasing agricultural and industrial demands are exacerbating water scarcity. The Vice-President stressed the need for behavioural changes, such as adopting water-saving practices, and highlighted the importance of inter-State cooperation in resolving water-sharing disputes. The Kishau Multipurpose Project agreement among six states was cited as a successful example of collaboration. Without effective water management, India risks facing severe water shortages and related socio-economic impacts.
