The greatest risks are along the coast, where persistent onshore winds and elevated water levels are expected to cause major coastal flooding and beach erosion. Some areas, including the Great South Bay near Lindenhurst and parts of Staten Island, could see 2-3 feet of coastal flooding inundation, pushing communities into major flood stage. Wave heights of 10-12 feet offshore may exacerbate beach erosion. Inland flooding is not expected to be widespread, but localized flooding could occur in areas experiencing the heaviest rainfall. River flooding may also develop in some areas later in the weekend.
