New York City is bracing for oppressive heat conditions over the next two days, with temperatures expected to reach 96°F (35.6°C) on Wednesday.
According to CBS News New York's Lonnie Quinn, the heat index could make it feel as hot as 100°F (37.8°C).

Impact & Risks

The high temperatures and elevated heat index pose risks to vulnerable populations, including the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions. Prolonged exposure to such heat can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, or heat stroke. Outdoor workers and individuals engaging in physical activities are particularly at risk. The oppressive conditions may also strain energy resources as air conditioning usage spikes.
