• A powerful nor’easter, currently spinning off the North Carolina coast, is expected to bring significant coastal impacts to the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions through Thursday.
• The storm, designated as Invest 93L by the National Hurricane Center (NHC), has the potential to develop subtropical or tropical characteristics.

Impact & Risks

The Outer Banks and Delmarva coasts are at high risk of coastal flooding, with water levels expected to rise over two feet above normal during high tide in some areas, such as Ocean City, Maryland. Prolonged gusty winds and destructive waves will exacerbate beach erosion and flooding, particularly along North Carolina Highway 12, which is already experiencing closures. Dangerous surf and rip currents pose additional risks to beachgoers. The mandatory evacuation of Hatteras Island underscores the severity of the situation, with significant ocean overwash expected to impact the region.
