• Tropical Storm Isaias is nearing hurricane strength over the southern Gulf of Mexico, approximately 290 km northwest of Progreso, Mexico, and 745 km south-southwest of the mouth of the Mississippi River.
• The storm is moving east-northeast at 15 km/h with maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h and gusts up to 140 km/h.

Impact & Risks

The northern Gulf Coast is at risk of significant impacts, including storm surge of 5 to 7 feet above ground level from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, to Indian Pass, Florida, including Mobile Bay. Damaging hurricane-force winds are expected Friday night into early Saturday, with isolated tornadoes possible in coastal Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. Rainfall totals of 3 to 7 inches, with local amounts up to 10 inches, may lead to flash and urban flooding. Swells generated by Isaias will create life-threatening surf and rip currents along the Gulf Coast.
