• A low-pressure system has formed over the northern Andaman Sea in the Bay of Bengal and is moving west-northwestward.
• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) projects that this system may develop into a depression by 21 September and a deep depression by 22 September, potentially reaching southern Odisha and northern Andhra Pradesh by 23 September.

Impact & Risks

The system is expected to cause significant rainfall in southern Odisha and coastal Andhra Pradesh, with risks of flooding, landslides, and disruption to transportation and infrastructure. Urban areas may experience waterlogging, while rural regions could face damage to crops nearing harvest. West Bengal and Sikkim may also see heavy rainfall, potentially affecting agriculture and daily life. The IMD has issued warnings to prepare for extreme weather conditions in the affected areas.
