Fresh Bay of Bengal System to Revive Monsoon Rains in India
IN · Published Aug 24, 2026
A new low-pressure system is forming over the northern Bay of Bengal near the West Bengal-Bangladesh coast, expected to bring heavy rainfall to eastern and central India.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts widespread rain in Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh over the next few days.

Impact & Risks

Heavy rainfall in Odisha and Chhattisgarh could lead to localised flooding and disruptions. Agricultural activities in these regions may benefit from the increased rainfall, but the overall monsoon revival remains uncertain. Peninsular India may continue to face weak rainfall, potentially affecting crop yields and water availability. Delhi-NCR may experience light to moderate rain, offering temporary relief from dry conditions.
