IN · Published Sep 9, 2026
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in parts of Odisha on Thursday due to a low-pressure area forming over the north Bay of Bengal.
This system is expected to bring very heavy rainfall to Odisha on Friday and Chhattisgarh on Saturday.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall and associated thunderstorms may lead to localised flooding, waterlogging, and disruptions in daily life across Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and other affected regions. Gusty winds could pose risks to weak structures and trees, while lightning increases the risk of injuries. Areas in east and northeast India, as well as parts of central and west India, are likely to experience significant weather impacts, including travel delays and agricultural disruptions.
