Tornado Outbreak Warning Issued for Central U.S. Over Six Days
US · Published May 15, 2026
A significant tornado outbreak is expected to impact parts of the central United States over the next six days, with millions of residents at risk.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) and meteorologists, severe storms capable of producing strong tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail are forecasted.
The event begins Thursday evening with a 'slight' risk of severe weather in northern Texas, western Oklahoma, and central Kansas.

Why It's Important?

The central U.S., including the Plains and Midwest, faces heightened risks from severe weather, particularly tornadoes, over the next several days. On Saturday, more than 4.5 million people in cities like Omaha, Lincoln, and Des Moines are in the highest risk area for strong tornadoes and hailstones up to 3 inches in diameter. Tornadoes pose a significant threat to life, property, and infrastructure, especially in densely populated areas. The NWS has also highlighted the potential for damaging winds and large hail, which could cause widespread damage to homes, vehicles, and crops.
