Free Fishing Days Announced for Oregon on June 6-7
US · Published May 29, 2026
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) has announced free fishing days across the state on June 6 and 7, allowing residents and visitors to fish, clam, or crab without a license or tag. This initiative coincides with free parking offered by Oregon State Parks on June
While no license is required, all other fishing regulations, such as area closures, gear restrictions, bag limits, and size restrictions, remain in effect. Drought conditions may affect fishing in smaller lakes and ponds, prompting anglers to consider early morning fishing or targeting warm-water species like bass, bluegill, and crappie. Additionally, rainbow trout will be stocked in various ponds and lakes to enhance the experience. Events hosted by ODFW staff, volunteers, and partner organizations will take place in locations such as Ukiah, Toledo, Silverton, Florence, Gaston, and Eugene, with a youth-only event near Estacada. These events aim to teach new anglers how to fish, with gear provided at the sites.

Why It's Important?

The free fishing days provide an excellent opportunity for families and individuals to enjoy outdoor activities and learn new skills. However, anglers should be aware of potential impacts from ongoing drought conditions, which may limit fishing opportunities in smaller water bodies. Additionally, restrictions on clamming are in place due to elevated levels of domoic acid in certain areas. Razor clamming is currently open from the Washington border to Cape Blanco but remains closed from Cape Blanco to the California border. Shellfish harvesting safety is regularly monitored, and closures are implemented when biotoxin levels are unsafe.
