• A nor'easter off the East Coast has intensified into Subtropical Storm Josephine, according to the National Hurricane Center.
• The storm, located a few hundred miles off the mid-Atlantic coast, has brought days of high surf, beach erosion, and coastal flooding to North Carolina's Outer Banks.

Impact & Risks

The Outer Banks of North Carolina are experiencing severe coastal flooding, with water levels rising 2 to 4 feet above ground in some areas. Overwash has damaged parts of N.C. Highway 12, making sections impassable. Dare County has issued a mandatory evacuation for visitors on Hatteras Island, and residents in vulnerable areas have been urged to leave. High surf and dangerous marine conditions, including 8- to 12-foot waves, pose risks to coastal communities and marine activities. The storm's northeastward movement may bring additional impacts to the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions later this week.
