Rajasthan Faces Severe Rainfall Deficit, Delaying Rabi Sowing
IN · Published Nov 3, 2026
• Rajasthan has recorded a significant rainfall deficit during the Monsoon season, with a shortfall of over 20%, the highest in 16 years, according to the state Disaster Management Department.
• Specific districts such as Pali and Jaisalmer experienced deficits of 58% and 54%, respectively, while Jalore, Banswara, and Sirohi also reported substantial shortfalls.

Impact & Risks

The rainfall deficit has created drought-like conditions, affecting farmers across Rajasthan and other states such as Punjab. Wheat sowing has been significantly delayed, which could impact food production and livelihoods. Crops sown under current conditions may fail due to inadequate soil moisture and high temperatures. Farmers without irrigation facilities are particularly vulnerable, as they cannot begin sowing. The government’s production target of 121 million tonnes for 2026-27 may be at risk.
