• Three days after severe landslides disrupted the Periyakulam-Kodaikanal Road in Dindigul district, Tamil Nadu, restoration efforts are still underway.
• The landslides, triggered by intense rainfall, caused significant damage to the road, particularly in the Adukkam panchayat area.

Impact & Risks

The landslides have severely impacted connectivity between Periyakulam in Theni district and Kodaikanal in Dindigul district. Only motorcycles are being allowed to pass through a narrow, partially damaged section of the road, leaving larger vehicles unable to traverse the route. This has disrupted transportation for local residents and businesses, particularly those relying on the road for access to Kodaikanal. The risk of further landslides remains high due to ongoing rainfall, posing additional challenges to restoration efforts.
