Severe thunderstorms, including at least four microbursts, struck Philadelphia on Saturday, bringing straight-line winds of 60 to 70 mph (96 to 113 km/h).
The storms caused significant damage, including downed trees, power outages, flooding, and structural damage in West and South Philadelphia.

Impact & Risks

The storms caused widespread disruption, particularly in West and South Philadelphia, where structural damage displaced dozens of residents. Over 26,000 PECO customers experienced power outages, and numerous roads were blocked by fallen trees. Flooding also impacted intersections and basements. Emergency services were stretched thin, responding to over 3,000 calls, including 800 from West Philadelphia alone. While no injuries were reported, the damage to homes and infrastructure poses ongoing risks, especially for vulnerable populations.
