A record-breaking heat wave has gripped the Eastern Seaboard, with temperatures soaring into the 90s°F (32-37°C) from New England to the Carolinas.
Over 50 municipalities have set record highs, including Philadelphia at 98°F (37°C) and Boston at 96°F (36°C) on Tuesday.
This marks the first May heat wave in New York City since 1987, with temperatures expected to reach 90°F (32°C) again on Wednesday.

Why It's Important?

The extreme heat has affected millions along the East Coast, with risks of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Beachgoers are cautioned about cold water temperatures, which can cause shock or hypothermia. A Moderate Rip Current Risk is in effect for the Mid-Atlantic, including the Jersey Shore. Severe storms expected Wednesday afternoon and evening could bring damaging wind gusts, particularly along the Interstate 95 corridor, including cities like Providence, New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. The storms may also disrupt travel and outdoor activities.
