Impact & Risks

The July 11 microburst storms caused significant damage to Philadelphia's urban tree canopy, particularly in West and South Philly neighborhoods. The loss of mature trees has long-term environmental and community impacts, including reduced shade, increased urban heat, and diminished green spaces. The Responsive Grants aim to mitigate these risks by funding projects that address tree hazards, replace lost trees, and restore community green spaces. Without these efforts, the affected areas could face prolonged environmental and social challenges.
