A surge of monsoon moisture from the Gulf of California has brought dust storms and isolated thunderstorms to the Phoenix area.
The National Weather Service issued a blowing dust advisory for several regions, including Buckeye, Avondale, South Mountain, and Queen Creek.

The dust storms and thunderstorms have caused significant disruptions, including power outages affecting over 20,000 customers in Maricopa and Pinal counties. Gilbert police have warned of hazardous road conditions due to debris and fallen trees. Residents in areas west of Phoenix, such as Peoria and Surprise, should prepare for high winds and potential hail. The extreme heat warning remains in effect, posing health risks such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke, especially for vulnerable populations.
