Flood Watch issued for Phoenix amid heavy monsoon rains
• A surge of monsoon moisture combined with a storm system is bringing heavy rainfall and potential flooding to Arizona. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for the entire Phoenix metro area and most of the state, effective through 11 p.m. Wednesday. Rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are expected, with the potential for flash flooding, damaging winds exceeding 60 mph, hail, and dangerous lightning. The NOAA Weather Prediction Center has placed much of the state under a Moderate risk for flash flooding, which is level 3 on a 4-level scale. Areas from Phoenix to Globe, Payson, Casa Grande, and Tucson are particularly at risk.
