US · Published Jul 23, 2026
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued extreme heat warnings for central and southwestern Arizona, as well as southeastern California, through Monday, July 27,
High-pressure systems are driving temperatures to dangerous levels, with highs expected to exceed 110°F (43°C) and peak at 115°F (46°C) in areas like Phoenix, Lake Havasu, and Yuma. Overnight lows will remain uncomfortably warm, ranging from the upper 80s to lower 90s (31-34°C). Despite the dry air reducing rainfall chances, humidity levels will stay elevated, with dew points in the 50s and 60s. Rain chances may return to southeastern Arizona by Saturday night, July 25.

Impact & Risks

The extreme heat poses significant health risks, particularly for vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing conditions. Prolonged exposure to these temperatures can lead to heat-related illnesses, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The combination of high temperatures and elevated humidity will exacerbate discomfort, especially during nighttime hours when cooling relief is minimal. Outdoor activities and unshaded areas will be particularly hazardous.
