Air Quality Alerts Issued Across Multiple U.S. States Amid Health Concerns
US · Published May 15, 2026
Air quality alerts have been issued across several U.S.
states, including Arizona, Oklahoma, California, and Minnesota, due to elevated pollution levels.
The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) has declared an ozone high pollution advisory for the Phoenix Metropolitan Area, while the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has issued an ozone alert for Oklahoma City and Lawton from 10 a.m.

Why It's Important?

The poor air quality is expected to affect sensitive groups, including individuals with lung or heart disease, older adults, pregnant individuals, children, and those who spend extended time outdoors. Health risks include asthma attacks, breathing difficulties, lung damage, and increased susceptibility to infections. The National Weather Service (NWS) has emphasized that ozone and particle pollution can penetrate deep into the lungs, exacerbating existing health conditions. Residents in affected areas are advised to limit outdoor activities and take precautions to reduce exposure to pollutants.
