The first significant heat wave of July 2026 is taking shape in the Portland, Oregon area, with temperatures expected to climb into the mid-90s (35-36°C) for inland areas.
The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the Portland metro area, Vancouver, Columbia River Gorge, Hood River Valley, Lower Columbia River, and parts of the Willamette Valley from Tuesday morning through Wednesday night.

Impact & Risks

The heat wave poses significant health risks, particularly for individuals spending extended periods outdoors, those working outside, or anyone without access to adequate cooling. The combination of high daytime temperatures and warm nights increases the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions. The Extreme Heat Watch areas, where temperatures may exceed 100°F (37.8°C), face an even greater risk of heat-related health issues. Residents are advised to take precautions to stay cool and hydrated, and to check on neighbors and family members who may need assistance.
