Record Heat Grips Portland Area with Highs Near 100°F
US · Published Jun 16, 2026
• Portland and surrounding areas are experiencing record-breaking heat, with temperatures reaching 95-100°F (35-38°C) on Monday, June
• The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory and Extreme Heat Warning for the I-5 Corridor and the Gorge through Tuesday. Coastal areas, which also saw unusually high temperatures, will begin to cool as onshore flow develops. Monday night is expected to bring record-warm lows in the mid-60s°F (18°C), making for uncomfortable conditions without air conditioning.

Why It's Important?

The extreme heat poses risks of heat-related illnesses, particularly for vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, and those without access to cooling. Outdoor activities during peak heat hours should be minimized. The heat may also strain local power grids and increase the risk of wildfires in dry areas.
