Monsoon Withdrawal Likely Around September 19; Rainfall Expected Across India
• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that conditions are becoming favourable for the withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon from parts of West Rajasthan around 19 September
• Meanwhile, rainfall activity is expected to increase across several regions due to weather systems over the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal, and mainland India. A low-pressure area over southeast Pakistan and the northeast Arabian Sea, along with associated cyclonic circulations, is influencing weather patterns. Rainfall has been recorded in various states, including Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, during the 24 hours ending at 5:30 am on 16 September.
Impact & Risks
Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected in several states, including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Uttarakhand may experience light to moderate rainfall, with risks of landslides in vulnerable areas. In Rajasthan, temperatures in some areas remain high, around 40°C, despite resumed monsoon activity. The IMD has issued alerts for districts in Punjab, including Pathankot, Gurdaspur, and Amritsar, highlighting potential risks of localised flooding and disruptions.
