A heat advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for much of western, central, and eastern New York, effective from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14,
Heat index values, which combine temperature and humidity to reflect how hot it feels, are expected to range from 95°F to 104°F (35°C to 40°C) across the state. Specific regions such as the Lake Plains, Genesee Valley, and Finger Lakes could experience the highest heat index values of up to 104°F (40°C). Other areas, including the Capital Region, may see heat indices up to 102°F (39°C), while central New York could reach up to 100°F (38°C). This extreme heat is expected to impact cities such as Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, Albany, and more.

Impact & Risks

The combination of high temperatures and humidity poses a significant risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for vulnerable populations such as older adults, young children, and individuals with chronic medical conditions. Those working or spending extended periods outdoors are also at heightened risk. The National Weather Service warns that heat stroke and other heat-related conditions can develop quickly under these conditions. Residents in the affected areas are urged to take precautions to stay safe and avoid prolonged exposure to the heat.
