The National Weather Service (NWS) has confirmed three additional tornadoes from Monday's severe weather outbreak in the Chicago area, bringing the total to seven.
Among the newly identified tornadoes is an EF-0 twister that struck Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois, with peak winds of 80 mph (27°C).

Impact & Risks

The tornadoes caused widespread damage across the Chicago area, impacting residential neighborhoods, educational institutions, and infrastructure. The EF-1 tornado in Lansing damaged homes near Heritage Middle School and crossed into Indiana before dissipating. Straight-line winds exceeding 100 mph (38°C) were reported in eastern Will County, affecting areas like Frankfort, Monee, and Beecher. Tree damage was prevalent in Orland Park and Glen Ellyn due to EF-0 tornadoes. Residents in affected areas may face challenges related to property damage, debris cleanup, and potential power outages.
