Southern California is bracing for a significant heat wave this week, with temperatures expected to soar into the triple digits across much of the region.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the heat will intensify midweek, with highs ranging from 90°F to 105°F (32°C to 40°C) in most areas away from the coast.

Impact & Risks

The heat wave poses a high risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for vulnerable populations such as the elderly, young children, and those without access to air conditioning. Outdoor workers and individuals engaging in strenuous activities are also at heightened risk. Overnight lows in the 70s°F (21°C+) will provide little relief, compounding health concerns. Fire risks are elevated due to the combination of high temperatures, dry lightning, and gusty winds, particularly in interior mountain areas. Recent fires, including the Summit Fire in the Antelope Valley, highlight the potential for rapid fire growth under these conditions.
