The high humidity levels are amplifying the heat's impact, making it more dangerous for residents, particularly in areas like Central and South Central Los Angeles, where many homes lack air conditioning. Moist heat is harder for the human body to tolerate, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Vulnerable populations, including older adults, young children, outdoor workers, and individuals with chronic health conditions, are at heightened risk. Additionally, the elevated sea levels, combined with high tides and large waves, have already caused significant coastal flooding and beach erosion. The National Weather Service has issued warnings for major beach erosion, shallow seawater flooding, and dangerous rip currents along south-facing shores through September 10, 2026.
