• The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood watch for the Santa Monica Mountains and nearby communities, effective from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday.
• This comes as a cold storm system is expected to bring heavy rainfall to the region, with the Los Angeles basin forecasted to receive up to 1 inch of rain, while hills and mountains could see up to 3 inches.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall poses a significant risk of flooding in streets, creeks, and rivers, particularly in areas with recent wildfire burn scars. The Bryson Fire burn scar near Malibu is of particular concern, as these areas are prone to landslides and rapid water runoff. Communities in the Santa Monica Mountains and surrounding areas should prepare for potential disruptions, including road closures and localized flooding. Thunderstorms and hail could also create hazardous conditions for outdoor activities and travel.
