India experienced 5.7 mm of rainfall on Tuesday, which is 2% below the normal of 5.8 mm for the day, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Cumulatively, from 1 June to 15 September, the country has received 679.3 mm of rainfall, marking a 15% deficit compared to the normal of 795.9 mm for the period.

Impact & Risks

The uneven distribution of rainfall across regions could have varying impacts. The 'large deficient' rainfall in east and northeast India, which was 82% below normal, may affect agricultural activities and water availability in these areas. Conversely, the 'large excess' rainfall in central India, which was 69% above normal, could lead to localised flooding or waterlogging. The overall seasonal deficit of 15% may pose challenges for water resource management and crop yields in rain-dependent regions.
